Research and Care in
Sudden Infant and Child Death
Evidence, Empathy & Action
Monday 28 June - Thursday 1 July 2027
University of Birmingham, UK

Over two and a half days, we will deliver a rich programme structured around five core sessions exploring the latest advances in research.
This conference warmly welcomes experts and those new to this field of care and research. We are deeply committed to attracting new researchers to the field of sudden unexpected infant and child death. Building the next generation of investigators is essential for accelerating discovery furthering the evidence base, improving outcomes and savings lives worldwide.
We are also particularly interested in speakers from aligned fields, including sudden death, cardiology, neurology, neuropathology,
genetics, epidemiology, and related specialties, whose insights can drive interdisciplinary breakthroughs.
Whether your work is scientific, clinical, supportive, policy driven, or rooted in lived experience, ISPID 2027 offers a unique
environment to learn, collaborate, and transform knowledge into meaningful action.
ISPID members are invited to ISPID working group meetings on our pre-conference workshop day, on Monday 28 June.
In association with International Society for the Study and Prevention of Perinatal and Infant Death (ISPID), the Lullaby Trust, 2Wish and SUDC UK, this is the world’s leading forum bringing together researchers, clinicians, bereaved families, advocates, and public health leaders dedicated to understanding and preventing sudden infant and child death.
In 2027, we convene with a shared purpose: to strengthen the science, compassion, and global coordination required to reduce sudden infant and child deaths and to better support families affected by these devastating losses.
Abstract submission opens 1 August 2026
Discover current research across sudden unexpected and unexplained infant and child deaths including SIDS, SUID and SUDC, paediatric pathology, investigative standards, physiological mechanisms, risk reduction strategies, and bereavement care for families.
This year’s programme places a strong emphasis on cross disciplinary collaboration, recognising the vital contributions of cardiology, neurology, genetics, and other aligned specialties.
ISPID 2027 provides dedicated opportunities for early career researchers, trainees, and those entering the field for the first time. Mentorship, networking, and presentation opportunities are intentionally structured to support newcomers and expand the research landscape. New researchers can apply for ISPID travel awards, details of these awards will be available with the call for abstracts.
Hear from bereaved families and learn from experts in bereavement support, psychology, and family centred pathways. Their experiences guide clinical improvements and shape more compassionate systems of care.
We provide a safe and supported space for affected families to come together and for families and academics to meet, share and learn from one another.
The conference fosters connections across countries and disciplines, helping participants translate research insights into action - policy, practice, and prevention strategies that save lives.
Together, we honour the children who have died through advancing research, empathy and action that leads to safer futures.
Your voice, your expertise, and your commitment matter—and we look forward to welcoming you.
